my all time favorite farm pond has changed ownership.
in the last 5 months, i have caught countless bass. good ones too, w/ say 8 out of 10 fish falling b/t 1.5 and 2.25 #'s.
i could go over and expect a 10 to 13# bag in about 90 min.
i caught big yp (10-14") slab crappie, and two 4# plus hybrid stripers as well
so the water is no longer open to me.
the facility will be put to good use, under the endowment of a non-profit foundation. understandably, they seek to limit access to the property in order to preserve and protect the investment
today i went to another pond in that area. the torrential rainfall yesterday evening had turned 4 acres of gin-clear
water into a giant cup of mud.
fending away pessimissim is job one.
visibility is 6" at best.
the wind howls.
i start flipping a black/blue jig&pork frog
one lesson this spring-they will bite in the mud
bang that jig on wood, on rocks, keep shaking it, and they will find it eventually
i pick up a few short ones
these waters are not
anywhere as fertile as the other place
so i opt for a strike king midnite special
i finish dressing it with a black pork frog
colorado blade, rattle, black skirt & frog make it more like a J&P and i work it like it, hoping the thumping blade will offer a wee bit more notice.
at length it pays off: a nice 3, and then a nice 4pound class bass
i am particularly pleased to fare this well on this pond, as weight has been hard to get in the last few years

Great report...sorry to hear about losing access to a favorite water hole but you will find others.
