Fishing rod usage and safety tips.

I got this from Joe Onoroto, J & J Sports Service.

1.When fighting a fish, NEVER hold your hand above the handle. This transfers the load to a smaller diameter area and dramatically increases the stress of the rod.

2. If caught in an electrical storm put your rod away! Graphite is an excellent conductor of electricity.

3. To free a snag, point the rod tip directly to the snag and pull along the axis of the rod putting the stress on your reel. This may break your line but it will save your rod.

4. Always follow the line rating for your rod.

5. Never reel snaps or weights into your guides.

6. Store your rods is a rod sac or inside away from the sun. UV is not kind to high tech rods. Also never store a rod in a manner that creates a "load'  on it for an extended period of time. It can cause warpage.

7. Wash your rods in a mild soap bath and wax them with non-abrasive automobile wax. If a milky finish appears after you wash it later, don't panic. The wax has shed its oxidized layer. Simply re wax. Waxing should be done every 2-4 years depending on usage.

8. Keep your rods away from dogs, cats and children......they like chewing and destroying these expensive toys!

Time to go fishin' again!
