Kiptopeke Thursday

Two of my buds and I took the yaks to the Conrete ships at Kiptopeke.  We go there around 9pm and after a real short paddle we were fishing.  We droppped the eels and started fishing.  Immediatly Jason hooked a nice one but spit it when he rolled next to the yak.  Then Derek hooked up with one and it took him for a sleigh ride.  We hear the clicker and then he was gone through the alley and we paddled after to him to watch the show.  He boated it and paddled it back to the truck.  As he was there Jason hooked up with one that was diggin deep.  It got hooked around the bow and he hollerd over to undo it so i paddled over and the 75lb snap had broke and it was hanging onto the swivel by hardly anything so i grabbed the leader. We had the fish only by the leadder and hook.  As i passed the leader over he almost lost the fish when the fish rolled and the leader slipped a lil out of his hand.  But then he hauled it into the boat.  He then paddled it over to the truck.  As they were gone the reel I was borrowing was messing up bad so I had to use a spinning rod whihc was awful bc I didnt have a clicker and they were not hitting very hard.  I didnt get a bite the whole night, but it was still fun.  We are goin back tuesday night to get one.  I went and got a rod and reel today after having problems.  Dereks went 37 inches and 34lbs.  Jasons was 47 inches and 45lbs!!!!!!!!!

Pics from the next morning

We were trying to figure that out on the way down, but once we saw it was only like a 200-300 yd paddle we said if you catch one just paddle it back to shore and throw it in the truck and thats what he did.  Just through it in between legs and he paddled it back.

We drop the rods right next to the ships in the alley ways (which side depends on the tide).  It is 20ft-30ft deep there and you drop it to the bottom then reel it up 2-3 cranks and it suspends there.   Guys drift the area as well with weightless.

Here is a link my friend sent me that shows the depths in that area: http://kayakkevin.com/kiptostriperhowtos.html  You can also see the setup used altough we do a a different weight rig than he uses.

Re: Kiptopeke Thursday

i saw his video on youtube, interesting, I think a 8" floating huddleston on a dropshot rig suspended off the bottom would be killer

Re: Kiptopeke Thursday

Thanks for the post and nice fish fellas!  I'm headed to CBBT Dec. 15-19 fishing on a buddies boat ......... hope the water temp doesn't break down before i get there and hope I land a monster like that.  Game plan = LTJ and drift eels ...... may throw a few half and halfs on the fly rod as well.

If it were easy, they'd call it catching!
