11/13 to 11/16

Headed down to giles county with a friend to hunt at his cabin.

Saturday morning I went to the top of the mtn and settled in on the ground.  had something come by me about 930.  sounded like I could hear it for a mile and a half either way, but never got a visual on it.   Around 10, somebody else got one so I headed off the mtn to help out.

around noon we headed down the road to help another fella track one he had shot that morning.  We got it out about 130 and proceeded to set up for an evening hunt, seeing nothign but squirrels and birds.

monday morning, I headed back up top and took up residence in a tree stand to hopefully get a little better view.  a little before 9 I heard a ruckus coming in from the right and behind me.  knowing i couldn't shoot over my right shoulder, I just kept peeking over to see whats the matter when i spotted the doe.  I knew she was getting chased so i kept patient as they moved in directly behind me.   seemed like they were back there for an eternity and i couldn't see a thing but could hear a buck grunting.   finally they started to move again and continued to my left.  I got the rifle situated over my left shoulder and spotted a rock on the second deer, but couldn't get a shot and couldn't tell how big it was - as they moved off into some thick cover I lost sight of them.  About 920, the buck moves back into sight and stops giving me a 50 yd quartering away shot.  as i squeeze off the trigger, I take a rifle scope between the eyes and the deer runs downhill about 25 yds as if he's not hit.  I wipe the tears and blood from my eyes and get a scope on him and see he's hit clean.
he finally sits down and looks around a bit, before putting his head down.  a few minutes later he makes his final kicks and I climb down out of the tree to claim my prize

needless to say, I'm smiling like a kid at christmas at that point.  10 1/2 points,  broken G4 on the right side.  biggest buck I've killed.
quick measurements were 16" inside spread, 24" mainbeams and about 140" gross.   I'm still smiling like a kid at christmas.   sometimes it good to have luck on your side.

now it's yesterday! roll

Great harvest!

If it were easy, they'd call it catching!
