10/11, Eastern Shore fishing report

Curly, Bob Forbes and I met Capt. Brady Bounds at the Pax River boat ramp at 0715 this morning.  The weather forecast was for an absolutely gorgeous day.

We tried a few spots before we went across the bay but no one was home but in reality, we really wanted to see "the other side". Just as we started motoring, we saw the "Miss Susie" and yelled out to Capt. Lee Tippett. He gave us the obligatory wave (he had no clue who we were) but as soon as Curly took his hat off, Lee recognized us.

So...on the Honga River Bridge, our 1st stop. Quickly, Bob took the skunk off the boat!

Then it was my turn....

Curly did not get one on this stop but he nailed this 25" on top water at our 1st shallow water stop!

This (catching them on top water) continued for a while (we were using Stillwater Smack It Jrs).

Bob got hung up on the sod bank and we dropped him off where he proceeded to catch fish from the bank!

And from the boat....

I then switched top water lures to a Line Stretcher Tackle Company "Surface Tension". Strange looking lure that I bought in Rhode Island. After making a few adjustments, I started catching fish including this houndfish!

We then fished some "structure" out a ways from the shore line. No sign of fish but.....we probably caught 25-30 fish in 30-40 minutes, many being keepers and including a blue fish! This was incredible action mainly because our guide knew what the layout was. Most people would have fished the shoreline, me included. But the fish were thick but out from the shore. This was as good as it gets! Oh....most top water fish were caught between 10:30am -2pm in broad daylight.....

When that died off we plucked a few fish here and there and even found a few working birds.

At one of the places we fished, Capt. Brady questioned our ability to recognize structure. So....here it is. What is it?

I know that we will all sleep well tonight after a great day of LT action (most on top water). We caught a LOT of fish! Great day on the water, great day of fishing with a great guide!

Good stuff fellas. Gee Ernie, you sure are getting out a lot these days. Is this a sign of things to come? At this rate, you may as well start your own private charter business!

If it were easy, they'd call it catching!

Not in the cards!

Winter is coming.....need to get some fishing in as I really do not like the cold....most of my fishing lately has been on someone else's boat.....my boat just sits nowdays!

Fishing with someone like Brady Bounds is a treat since he knows the area so well. He understands the behavior of the fish, tides, currents etc......

By the way, the "structure" looks like a rusted out hatch opening to a submarine.

Very good guess, was mine as well but.....try again!

BTW, we did not catch any fish off this structure.

Another good guess but .....nope!

Hint: this piece of metal is in the water just off (NE) Bloodswroth Island (some may say that it was actually ON the island before erosion and other forces changed the scape).

A real tank??

That is so cool.. I fish the Gywnns Island reef and it has a bunch of Abrams turrets down deep.

Has to be an old Tiger from the hatch..

Bingo! According to Brady, it's a Sherman tank (actually two of them)!! They were placed on the shoreline as target for Navy jets. The shore line has unfortunately eroded so now all you see is what you saw on the picture.
