Haha my fault guys, didn't mean to stir the pot! The ones I've caught down south have been much lighter... either way they are a blast to catch, especially when they school up!

No problem smile . The crappie's color pattern changes throughout the year.  Especailly during the spring spawn, the darker colorations intensify significantly and many will have vertical dark bars like a yellow perch.  Males can be very dark during the spawn and females will have more pronounced yellow patches as well.  All is good!
