chantilly office park

well i was in the neighborhood, and it paid off.

at4pm they were hitting fast and furious

i hit 9 bass in 70 min, with the best couple in the two pound range.

all were b/b J&P fish.

i think the bass in that pond pull harder than any i have ever caught.

i have never gotten one better than 3#, but they all yank like branded mules

Re: chantilly office park

i went back the following day, and caught 6 more.

the average size was smaller, but again i enjoyed the action.

i caught a few warmouths as well, that were able to eat a full size plastic worm and get hung on the #2 EWG hook, even tho they were relatively short.

a sidenote: fish get the hook deep really fast when it is this hot; get bit and hit them quick.

a family of beavers has moved in and restricted the outflow. the water level is up and algae way down.

Re: chantilly office park

i have continued fishing there regularly

i average around 1/2 dozen nice keepers each time, but seldom crack 2#'s.

lately, 4# line, trick worm, 1/8 bullet weight

the recent rain has brought the ticks out

this pond has more turtles than most, and at least 2 massive snappers.
funny thing is, i have seen the snappers milling around when the place is partially frozen
they go sloooooow

Re: chantilly office park

Jeffie - I have a pretty good grasp of the ponds out here in Chantilly where I work. Is there a possibility that you can inform me of this office park? If you like you can take it offline and email me some details.

Re: chantilly office park

back again friday night-

caught eight more LM, the best of which was a fiesty 2#'r that hit a white senko after dark.
the light tackle provided additional entertainment.

at night the light poles create ambush areas.

on the same senko i caught a big bluegill, which was really cool

i caught some J&P bass as well

the beavers were out, and challenged me a few times, crowding my fishing areas, swimming back and forth and making it clear i wasnt wanted

they have trimmed back much of the overhanging brush,

Re: chantilly office park

this water is my top producer this year

after dark i caught two good bass, each about 2 #'s.

one was a J&P. the other was taken on a chatterbait.

there were other less notable fish as well

if you have never tried the chatterbait, give it a shot.

my best trailer has been a sweet beaver

i also nose hook a full length blue fleck worm.

i just slow roll it along likely areas.

multiple presentations can make a difference

Re: chantilly office park

the story continues

this place is bread & Butter 2010

today i had luck throwing a bomber 'model a'

i switched back to the J&P and caught a few more

last night it was recycled senkos, worked like a popper, walked like a dog, or flatout burned.

slow & easy couldnt get bit

this place is proving to have more fish than i ever suspected

more fishermen are also showing up

good thing they dont know what they are doing

i hope the crowds dont bring out the 'no trespassing' enforcers...

If Jeffie responds, it will likely be through a personal message. A lot of these places are held secret because they are fished through special permission and otherwise have No Trespassing signs.

Re: chantilly office park

But don't worry, there are plenty of good holes that we can share.

Re: chantilly office park

there is plenty of good water around
find some and figure out how to fish it
this is my third year on this small water, and i am still learning something all the time

the fish were always there, it is figuring out how to catch them
it changes from day to day
i rotate through old patterns, something happens, i discover a new one

the giant warmouth and bluegill seem to have evaporated.
they are just holding in different areas, and are less aggressive

they should have a bass masters tourney for shoreline anglers
then you would see who could really handle a rod

1 rod, no electronics, unlimited baits.
either that, or limited to 75.00 worth of offerings for the week, including line
lets see who scores in the real world

Re: chantilly office park

Don't know about anyone else, but one of the most exciting things for me is finding new bodies of water to fish - creek, lake, pond, stream ... whatever. Most times I'm pleasantly surprised to find fish. Sometimes just bluegill, but more often then not LMB.

A good way of finding new places to fish is to simply browse around on Google/Bing maps. I've found several ponds this way with good results. Just searching on Leesburg, I see plenty of small ponds that could potentially hold fish. Many times, they're located in or around offices or within communities.

I don't fish when it says No Trespassing, but I do admit to fishing community ponds that I'm not a resident of - I just make sure to be respectful of the property, the neighbors, practice catch and release, don't leave trash, etc.etc. Never had a problem.

The only time I ever did fish on a No Trespassing pond was at AOL, only cause I was an employee. And my VP said I could cause he fished it many times. Needless to say, the security guards were not amused, even after I showed my badge smile But let me tell you - if the security cameras left and they ever lift the ban on fishing that little pond, you'd be in for a treat!
