ash tues after

i put on a long sleeved white shirt, then pulled a cotton white t-shirt back over my head like a scarf, sort of like the desert peoples.
it is true that it is cooler to be covered. i was warm, but not perspiring profusely, nor becoming ill.

i caught a good bass on a drop shot, kiwi trick worm.
i lobbed it at some cover i like, knowing it was 25/75:fish on or hang up.
i begin feeling it into snagville, hoping for the 'live' bump that we all live for.

it stops, i know i am probably hung up good, i take a breath and try to gently shake it past the obstruction.
this is not going to come out-even tho the drop is only one extra knot, i will sometimes
not throw it because it seems like too much work.
yet i do it today, because it is a proven, tough- bite producer for me.
u might say, G, the drop shot is not a heavy cover presentation. sometimes they wont hit  the J&P or texas here, so i do what it takes, knowing that if i cant get bit,i cant catch fish

so i am on a liquid desert, questioning my sanity, hung up already.
it is time to break it off, yet i muddle around another moment.

i get bit, the fish pulls me off of the snag, i reel up and sweep.
i sense it is a good fish

call me nuts- i do this with 4# line and a light rod, and land more than I lose.

so i have a good fish, tight quarters, and light line. I pressure just enough to keep tension while i wait for the fish to show her cards.

she swims away from the cover, toward me, i take up line, and try to keep the rod at a right angle to the fish.
when i sense a rise, tip low, but leading away, letting the rod absorb as much of the fish's power as possible at all times.
i back the drag way off, now only ten feet of line b/t fish and rod tip.

each time the bass surges i fear a breakoff.
the fish tires before long, i bring it boatside, admire it quickly, and turn it loose.

i think it weighed about 4#'s, allowing for and deducting the truth stretcher.
it was solid.

in the next couple hours i missed a few good bites.
but once again, i came away from that lake with a good fish

Re: ash tues after

Give me some advance notice and we can plan to take the yaks out there one morning or evening.
