6-10-06, Kent Narrows CCA Striper Tournament report

Today, I fished the Kent Narrows CCA annual tournament in Eastern Bay, MD with fellow Cuban Carlos Maceo.

This tournament a light tackle or fly fishing only tournament. I fished light tackle and Carlos fished the fly. I was fortunate enough to catch the biggest bluefish...only trouble is that it was a STRIPER tournament! And that was the only fish we would catch under very tough conditions.

It was a wild day with the winds gusting to 35 mph. We had white caps everywhere and it was just tough to fish.

Out of 120 fishermen, only 12 or so caught legal size fish.

It was an eventful day to say the least with the worst being my loss of a new St. Croix Tidemaster and a Stradic reel. And a $50 parking ticket to boot! It was an expensive rip for on measly 14" bluefish!

But it was a great day nevertheless and lost of lessons learned.

Didn't you donate a rod to Chessie last year too? Did any kayakers participate?

I don't think I lost a rod in the Chessie last year.....we left early so I did not get a chance to see if there were any kayakers in the tourney. Of course, that would be for 2010!

When I saw the leader board, there were only fly and LT guys on it.
