4-10-10, Beaverdam Reservoir

We had a crew out on Beaverdam this morning.

Andrew, Simon, Khahn and Jeremy were the early show; Thai and I showed up a little after 8. Quite an array of boats!

It was cool but nice out and the wind was fairly calm when we started.

As I understand it, Jeremy nailed a 3.5 lb LMB on a buzzbait on his 1st cast. I also saw Thai miss a nice fat one.

So I  will tell my side of the story and everyone else will weigh in as we were split up for most of the day.

Once we got out, the wind kicked up a but just enough to mess you up but we were still able to find some calmer areas. I spent a long time probing the shoreline with a few different offerings but I got no love so I decided to head into one of the back coves and I managed to catch a 6-7 ouncer. A lot of work for very little result. Around 11:30, I tied on two deep divers and I trolled all the way to were the majority of the crew was. No hits but a ton of exercise as I was paddling against the wind.

Time was getting away so I started fishing the shoreline just above the cove where the launch in. Since I had thrown the spinner bait a lot last week, I decided that I was comfortable and confident with it. Sure enough, a nice 1.5 pounder took the bait and I landed my 1st decent fish. Here is the picture....

Oh wait, somehow I left the camera behind so I do not have any pictures of the fish I caught!

A few minutes later, I get a nice hit and after a pretty decent battle, I landed one that went 20.5 inches! I would say he was 4 pounds and then some but it could go 1/2 pound either way. When I told Andrew he asked my why I didn't call him over for a picture. I was trying to call him but they were way on the other side. The fish was witnessed by 2 canoers. Those two came within 20 minutes of each other and that was it for me.

Some of the crew did catch some nice ones...looking forward to their pictures.

These guys come ready to fish....

Andrew has a new Hobie that is really nice. His seat is the big draw....like an easy chair. Plus, he can store 6 rods out of site....

I was surprised to see no warden out there. I had my license all ready. I remembered not having it with me one year and I tried to show him a pdf of my license on my phone but he wouldn't have it.  driving and having to go to court in loudon just to show them my license to a judge was not something I want to do again.

Can you lift your boat? A trailer can't get to the water. You'd have to take it off trailer and drag/lift it to the water. I also think the boat would have to be pretty narrow.

Re: 4-10-10, Beaverdam Reservoir

Missed one on a buzzbait a little after Ernie and I arrived, was a dink it seemed though then proceeded to land this 3 on the buzzbait
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a238/thursday011/IMG_0203.jpg
Saw andrew catch two on a jig so i grabbed my jig and threw it out to a laydown and was hammered and fight was on, as soon as it was visible the jig fell out.....was at least a 4 so I was pissed..

It got real slow for me after that, every time I got to a decent spot the wind would pick up and drift me away...when I buy a yak it's gonna be a hobie!

Then while fishing out way back to the launch i started throwing a spinnerbait around and got this 4-12
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a238/thursday011/IMG_0204.jpg

Overall a fun day to be out on the water trying out mt yak leg
