occoquan sunday

we went out around 9:30 a.m.

my friend did well w/ shaky heads in deep water

pro senko, orange- standard issue at dick's

he had 20 or 25 bass for the day, but none over 1.5 #'s

I managed 3- just didnt have a good feel all day

we saw some guys w/ some good stripers

they say they get them early on sassy shads, right in the deep water at hoffmaster's

all of our fish were deep as well

the shad seem to be moving in

there are some crappie, but the pack's of 12" plus have not arrived yet

the water was very clean

Re: occoquan sunday

The Bass article was directed to the Occoquan Rez. bigjeffies post mentions hoffmasters marina, which is in the "river" for lack of a better term.  They are related, but different, bodies of water separated by the dam that creates the Rez.
Most fish the rez out of Fountainhead park, whereas access to the river is most common from the ramps at Occoquan park.
A quick look at Google maps will make this clear.

Re: occoquan sunday

I went with some friends today. We managed a cooler full of (~20-25) crappie (biggest being somewhere around 14"), a couple ~16" stripers, some decent sized bluegill, and a few largemouth.

Carl, if you're reading this, we used some of your spots. I'll give you a call sometime in the next couple days to fill you in on the rest of the details.

Re: occoquan sunday

very nice crappie dan

i get a lot of bass in that area as well.

my buddy is purely a bass man, plus he has always got to be moving that boat somewhere, so it is seldom i get to set up and crappie fish

Re: occoquan sunday

I've been meaning to check out the river all year, but the wife/kids have been keeping me put most of the time.  Is the launch open year round?

Re: occoquan sunday

Thanks Ernie! Still looking forward to meeting you out there one day!

&

Paul right now its winter hours and facilities are closed but launch park/ramp will be open from sunset to sundown, put your launch fee in the provided envelopes and slip it in the box. Just remember to give yourself enough time to get back before dark or you will be ticketed and they will close the gates on you.
