This my 25th annual pilgrimage to Outer Banks of North Kackalackly was shorter than I would have liked. And oddly it is same every year, even when I spent a week down fishing and cleansing my soul. Some how the salty surf seems to remove the impending doom of the Holidays and transform me into a more understanding patient soul.
Ida did a lot of damage to my land between the sea. My OBX is missing allot of beach. My pics will tell the story. BTW all I caught was doggies.. But it really does not matter.. This is the best place on earth.. A SHARP CONTRAST BETWEEN RUGGED AND EASY..
PS my new best friend is named George.
25 years,,,,,OK the first time down I got into 17lb bluefish for two whole days.. I honestly thought it was always like this..idiot..
I went 7years with only a few Chinese flounder so I know patience..

Excellent report and I agree about that area cleansing the soul....I love it down there but never been down past October.

I decided to add a sign to the front ramp 43 covered in water. I painted a NO WAKE AREA sign on a cooler lid and stapled it to the high water sign at the entrance. A park ranger did not find the humor so good and on the second day down removed it..

i hit those big blues in the surf in 1990. That is an experience. I saw them chase a 3# trout right onto the beach. Total mayhem.
they form up in ranks and systematically cut through that bait, boiling along the beach

I get a blow up (professional over run) every trip. That rod always does it to me. It is 12 foot Tsunami and if not loaded right it will blow up any reel. You have to smooth cast it instead of snatch and trip. My Breakaway is a snatch and trip rod so I forget and that happens.
The beach down there has really changed in 25 years from 200 yards over the dune to the water to the dune is gone...
I think that beach erosin can not be filled in due to it being Park Land. So the island inhabatants have to move farther back from the water too.
