About a month ago, Greg and I set this date aside to fish the SF of the 'doah with CT Campbell.. Little did we know that the river had flat lined very low and there was no way for CT to float the river in his ClackaCraft Drift Boat.
But, if there is a will, there is a way.
CT said we could do a stretch where he would row up river a bit while we fished and then drift down and fish some more. It would not be a "full" day but we would be on the water fishing. He also said that he had seen musky the last 4 trips on that stretch.
Well, if that didn't Greg exited! So much that he brought 2 musky rods with ginourmous baits!
It was a glorious morning....
The forecast called for temps around 90dF and a possibility of T-Storms in the afternoon. The former never materialized even though the temp meter said 88dF. There was very little humidity and we never felt hot until we got to the parking lot to get my car. The T-Storms didn't happen until were were on Rt. 66 going east. It rained hard but we were in the car!
Up front I will tell you that I made 3 casts with my musky rod but lost interest. However, Greg was more diligent and he got (saw) two follows and a swipe at his bait. That was exiting and Greg was satisfied that the musky were there. It was cool!
The fishing (and biting) was decent except for the size of the fish. While we did see a couple of decent sized bass in the clear water, we could never get one to bite.
But we did catch 4 species: SMB, LMB, green sunfish and BGs. Lots of tail bite offs and more bites that we could count. dn we caught a fair amount of small sized smallies!
All in all, a good day on the water catching tomorrow's supper stars!
