6-1-23, UP

Since I have to coach a baseball game later this afternoon, I told George that for today, I wanted to stay close so I could get home and recoup! lol Plus, I knew he needed a break from getting up early after 2 days of fishing on the Susky.

We met a little before 7a and were on the water shortly after. The ramp is really long now...no water.

We tried some top water by the 1st island but nothing.

We went down a little further and I had a huge blowup on the Sammie but I never felt any weight. We did get a couple of bites and  then the skunk came off at 7:30a.

Nothing else there so we went up river a bit where George got his skunk off as well.

We would catch more than a half a dozen fish here, some plumpy ones too, but for some reason, I didn't take any pictures. I guess we were having too much fun. So much that we drifted part of the area again and caught some more.

I threw my sammie out and got nailed! As I was reeling the fish in, I was loosing ground. I know it was not a monster but what gives? He finally spit the hook and then I realized that this was my 1st time throwing my top water rod and I had loosened the drag! mad Oh well!

We then went further up. While we were on the way, we saw the pattern. We saw 3-4 nice smallies sitting in front of rocks!

On this drift, we caught steadily for a while until the bottom got less rocky. I even had a nice hit on top water.

By now, it was around 11:30a and I had a "back to the ramp time of 1p".

We had scored at least 2 dozen hookups by this time and probably landed 15 or more. We had a couple of heart breaks including a very nice one that George lost right before the fish would let me net it. Well...the fish wanted no part of it and departed.

George also had another nice one on that probably rubbed up against a rock and cut the line.

Then I hooked the bottom...wait, it was moving. But it felt weird so I said it might be a kittie. I swear I saw it roll!

But as I started to get it close, George declared that it was a smallie!

Yep! It was 18+"s and 3 lbs 2 oz. Excellent tug!

We got a few more bites and then it was quitting time.

We had fairly constant action for most of the time until towards the end. A satisfying day indeed!

The boat retrieval went well despite the low water conditions. We even had a couple admiring fans tell us so. After storing the boat, we headed over to El Estribo, a Peruvian Restaurant.

Man, it was GOOD!

George had Ceviche Mixto...

...and I had the Pollo Saltado.

And when I got home, I had a surprise waiting for me!

Usually, this is a gimmick but they are actually very tasty!

Re: 6-1-23, UP

Had a great time - Thx!

And thx for letting me sleep in.  After getting up at 0300 and 0430 on consecutive days the extra sleep was nice

Harassed fish most of the time on the water so that was nice

You forgot to bring up the bikini hatch - well, probably a good thing we didn't take to many pix

The Peruvian food was great.  When I said calente, they gave me calente.  And that papaya worked magic!

And the Full Strawberry Moon coming up on Saturday didn't seem to bother us. We saw quite a few smallies swimming along in the clear water along with the usual suspects, catfish and carp.
