John Lipetz and I were supposed to fish for smallies in early November but I needed to take my boat down to Jim Starkey (the builder of my boat) so we cancelled. The boat was down for 3 weeks, that plus some life stuff (and weather) prevented us from fishing until today.
The original plan was to go after smallies today but I saw a FB post over the weekend for a walk on trip today. It didn't take John but 5-6 seconds to say he was in. I had also been given orders form Bob Morgan that if there were any bay fishing opportunities to include him. I contacted him and he was in!
I left the house at 8a and met john at 8:30a and down to Pt. lookout we went. I got home at 8:20p.
Today's plan was to go out of Pt. Lookout at 11a due to the lingering rain. Nice not having to get up at the crack of yesterday.
Were were joined by two other anglers, German and then Rob Schou who I've known for a few years but had never fished with him.
It was raining when we started...
...and the fishing was slow at 1st but Lipetz got us on the board!
The rain finally stopped and it was time to get to work..
The boys started catching one here and there...
The fish had sea lice!
You can tell who had the hot hand!
Then...finally!
It was the cigar that did it!
This is Capt Drey's guide partner, Brian. His dad.
More catching!
The fish were finicky and the bites were very soft. It was like they didn't really wanna eat. Water temp was @50dF all day.
But at one point, we had 4 fish on at the same time...a quadruple hookup. I just watched the excitement.
We were supposed to fish until 4:30p but the fishing had not been hot and heavy. We all caught some and John, German and Rob caught more than a few.
When this happened...
...I caught 5 fish in short order. Everyone else caught fish too. It was good...but it was also dark and past our stop time so we headed in just after 5:30p in the dark.
It was a great trip with a great Captain and crew.
Oh...he has a nice boat too!
The temps were in the 50's and it did get chilly (for me anyway) when the wind picked up for a few minutes but it died down quickly. A nice December day out indeed with lots of fish caught!
I'm whooped!

Nice Ernie!! It looked like you guys had a blast with all that catching. And yes...what a nice boat!

BTW- the bigger fish are just now starting to show up. They are late. Barring some really cold weather, the mouth of the Potomac will be on fire for a few weeks. All the fish we caught were very well fed.

Excellence all around! That was some serious spaghetti on that screen. No wonder you stayed out so late. Great report.

That shot of the depthfinder gets me excited. Nice report!

As I mentioned in the report, one of the crew on board was Rob Rob Schou who used to be a light tackle charter guide on the Potomac. The man can fish!
As a matter of fact, he sold his guide license to Capt. Dale Coon of Fishamajig Light Tackle Charters. Many of us have fished with Dale.
Rob had a go pro on for part the trip and took some footage. It's 12 minutes long, if you have some time.
