10-17-22, UP

On the way to White's Ferry (MD), I stopped in Leesburg to pick up Roney. Then we headed over to the ramp to meet up with Bruce. Of course, he was already there by 20 minutes and we were a few minutes early.

As we were getting stuff ready, Bruce tells me that the Grill is closed! Crap...I forgot that they were closed on Mondays. Now we have a crisis! lol We only have a couple of packs of crackers and some prunes! Yikes!

While we try to figure all of this out, a lady comes by and asks for the ramp fee. I told her that no one has been asking even when we ask at the grill where we can pay. Not sure of the reasons but Bruce gladly paid her and then asked about any close by restaurants. She suggested two of them in Poolsville, only 5-6 miles away.

Anyway, it was a nice day out. Temps started at 55dF and ended at 65dF. Some wind was predicted to start around 11a. The water temp was 62dF.

So...the plan was to fish fast and then go enjoy a good lunch somewhere.

We splashed the boat around 8:20a and up the river we went.

It did not take long for two of us to take the skunks off. Bruce threw below a rock and I threw just above it and BAM, we both got bit!

Ronnie could not believe that we caught those two fish in less than 2' of water.

But then, he gets bit and it's game on.

After a nice fight, we get it in the boat!

Most of the action was in the shallower, swift water.

We caught a few more!

This last fish that Ronnie caught came on a great cast to a rock's edge. It was cool to see.

All three of us had fish that we saw (or jumped) that we didn't land.

It got slow when the wind pick up and I had to use the TM to get down river. Wind is always a PIA!

We only fished for 3.5 hours so we were happy with the results. We did look for some biggies in deeper water but we only saw one and got no bites.

By 12:30a, we were packed and ready for lunch. And it was worth it!

I had a great shrimp Po' Boy with a spicy aioli mayo and the boys each had a steak and cheese. Plus fries. It was all good. The restaurant's name was Bassett's.

Good time out fishing today for sure!

Oh...the river is really low and really clear!

Good job getting out and finding some in the slow, clear water!  Nice looking fish.  Temps are going to drop now.

Great report but the lack of pics of the shrimp po' boy is highly disappointing.

Not bad for 3.5 hours.

Was it a bumpy ride with 3 anglers in the boat?

We were dreading the wind because it came from the north and that meant in our faces and a brutal paddle but were very happy to see the predicted wind never happened.  Water temp were about 10 dF colder where we floated.

Ernie told the story well...as he usually does. The three of us hadn't fished together since a shad trip on the Occoquan in mid-April, so we had several conversations to catch up on. What Ernie didn't tell you was that the last time I launched from White's Ferry was in 1991...31 years ago. Back then I had a 14' aluminum jon boat with a 9.9 hp motor. Used to catch smallies, sunfish, and an occasional catfish mostly on Roostertails. So for old time sake, I started out with a Roostertail, and since it was doing well, I used it all morning except for a few ned rigged trds. All in all, it was a great trip on the water and the lunch was quite good too!

We all agreed that it was a good short span of fishing.

Nope.

I only ran up over the 1st ledge since we didn't have that much time to fish. I also avoided a certain fishy area because it was too low.

We only scraped the TM a few times, but never the bottom of the boat.
