10-6-22, UP

Bob and I met up at 7:45a and in short order, we were on the water. It was nice to see that orange thing up in the sky! It had been a while...

My only worry today was all the grass around the ramp. Launching would be easy but retrieving could get dicey if the motor were to suck up a bunch of grass.

We started local since it was still chilly out (for me anyway). But we found no love so we moved up a bit. We found no love there either.

So up river we went and drifted a bit where we had caught some a while back but things have changed.

The water temps were at 56dF at the start and 60dF at the finish.

Based on we had seen at these 3 locations, the rapid drop in temps after all the rain, wind and cold mornings had definitely affected the fish. It was frustrating.

So we made the big move up and still didn't get any in our 4th spot although we did get a few bites and a couple of fish that got off on the hook set.

Then I get a call form Bill Pearl. He and John Lipetz had put in way up river and had caught 4 fish but nothing big. And then Bill taunted me because John brought some home made BBQ for lunch. The same BBQ that he was gonna bring Wednesday but I cancelled that trip due to rain, wind and chilly temps.

Finally, I got my skunk off!

We then hit the MD shoreline where it was a bit stained but no mud line.

I was still getting taunted by Bill and John!

Man, I bet that brisket was good. All I brought was a piece of Polish sausage and a pack of crackers. tongue

We get to a fallen tree and Bob gets played with by a fish. On the next cast, he declares, "nice fish"! And he's using a L rod to boot.

This fatso came on board after a brief battle.

We both would have sworn it was an 18"er but it measured out at 16.25", but 2.5lbs!!

We kept catching one here and there but now we were on the VA shoreline where it was cleaner and had more boulders.

This one had a hump!

The day was not on fire but it was still fun. We both ended at 4 fish each

My last one had a black tail.

Hard to see in that pic but it was different..

At one point, I saw a small fish take Bob's lure but the wind had come up a bit and he had a bow in the line. I told him to set the hook but there was too much slack. Cool to see it all.

I think he had 3-4 fish that got off, I had 2. One of the smallies I caught looked like a minnow. lol

John and Bill ended up with 12 fish with their biggie at 17"! But what was amazing is that their last 8 fish all, came on top water!! That's in mid day!

Anyway, after a very slow start, we found some and that's always a good thing!

Nice report.  Sorry to see it was not fire, but big changes will get the fish moving and hard to find.  Big drop in temps did not help.  Nice big fish, Bob!

I have to ask.  117"?  That's almost 10 feet!

Ha! Bob and I talked about this. All the experts always say the "fish are on the move" but they never say where to! lol

All of our fish came off the shoreline, sometimes in shadows, some off wood and some just chased but not attacked.

Obviously a typo...it's fixed now.    roll

Figured.  Good job finding some in the "transition".  At least you got to go.

Looks like the fish had their feed bags on in anticipation of winter
