Greg and I met up with CT Campbell to do a float after the rains.
Amazingly, we traveled through rain to get to Luray and when we got to the ramp...it cleared up.
We would go from Alma to White House. It's a 7 mile float. The water was clear and rising a bit during the day. Lots of huge leaves in the water. many were mistaken for fish! But they were a bit of a PIA.
Greg would take the skunk off 1st...
Don't remember what he caught it on...maybe a belly weighted hook with a paddle tale.
I was asking CT if anyone had been catching rock bass and I then got tapped.
If they were more of these in the river, I would definitely chase them exclusively with UL tackle.
Greg was catching them good...I lagged behind but all were smallish.
Spectacular scenery and some good fishin'!
I decided to hit them with a jerk bait and this little guy obliged!
More catching!
We caught a few more small ones but we were surprised that most of the fish were caught in the morning vs the afternoon (when we thought the bite would be better).
We caught just south of 20 and we didn't get any big ones...
Greg did try for musky for a bit but no follows (that we know of).
Still, It was great to be out. Very comfortable temps and the wind behaved for the most part.

Love that tiny smallie on that big jerk bait - aggressive little buggers

Turned into a really nice day after the early morning rain. Leaves were at their peak. It was just great to be out on the water. Ernie whooped and hollered like he just caught a 6lb smallie when he got that Rock Bass! It was actually a big Rock Bass. There were questions about what size is a citation for Rock Bass. But we decided it was not quite big enough. CT convinced me to throw a Ned Rig (which I really don't like to fish with) and it worked. Caught about half my fish on the Ned Rig and half on a belly weighted paddle tail swimbait (my goto bait). CT's boat is so comfortable to fish from all day. Great guide with a really great attitude the whole time. Can't wait to go again!
