10-15-21, UP

After getting breakfast at The Fillup (priorities), Greg and I splashed the boat at 7:30a. It was a really nice morning with some clouds.

We fished close by for a bit and got no bites so we made the long run up river. It was a tad chilly as we ran  at 25mph but very tolerable.

We both got nips at our 1st spot but could not understand why it did not produce so we dropped down a bit and behind the island, I hooked into a rock that moved. I was losing the battle and after it turned into a another rock, it was off. I suspect a catfish since it did not jump (we were in 1-2' of water. It did not run like a carp. Oh well! Nice thrill!

A few minutes later Greg got a bite and I hooked into a small one but it on;y lasted 1 crank of the reel. It was on a belly weighted swim hook (3" paddle tail). We threw at eddies, in front of rocks, behind rocks...you name it. Nada!

The water was gin clear, around 68-69df all day. The sun was still in hiding. River level was below 2’ at POR.

I wanted to go down river a bit to where we've had some action but decided to float a section that I have not floated. In short order, the skunk was off!

OK...he was only 12.25" but the skunk was off.

Then we started seeing a few fish follow our lures. That was encouraging. Greg was able to get a commitment form one of them!

He was a healthy, fat 13.5"er!

The more fish followed his lure and this little guy got hooked.

Then...we left fish to go find fish but that did not work out so I went back up river.

I was getting late as we wanted to get off around 1p and grab some lunch.

On that last drift, the sun came out in full force and we stopped seeing any activity. Except 1 guy. This fish hung around the boat for about 10 minutes. I know I touched him with my lure 1-2 times. So did Greg. He would not eat. He just laughed at us.

We called it a day and went to a new BBQ joint...Black Hog BBQ. It was very good with large sides. A bit pricey maybe but the quality (and taste) of the meat was there.

I felt bad for Greg since we did not have great activity but we laughed a lot and set plans in motion to go fish Charleston SC...one of my favorite places. You see, Tyler just moved down there to go work for Shimano. I CANNOT wait!!

Sorry the action was not good.  I was south of there, but the clear water makes it tough.  Game over when the sun comes out.  At least you caught something and had some mystery bites.

Charleston will be amazing I am sure!

As always, a day fishing with Ernie is a very good day.  Would have been great if we slammed them, but at least we got a few (few = 3).  And the day was beautiful.  Black Hog is a nice place and "good" BBQ, but I think we agreed it will struggle at those price points.

Tyler got his dream job as a Product Specialist for Shimano Fishing Division.  Basically he controls the product offerings and design of everything in his product line.  That means 30-40% of his time is spent "testing" the products (testing = fishing).  The rest of his time is either meeting with suppliers/customers (also means fishing with them) and sometimes working in the office.  I am REALLY proud of him and so happy he found a job he is passionate about.  So far, every day I talk to him  he has another amazing thing he is doing with the Shimano team. Ernie and I are already planning trips to visit him and help Shimano test their products.
