9-21-21, UP

John Lipetz and I were originally going to fish the UP tomorrow but the weather forecast changed that. I asked if he could do Tuesday but he would not be able to join me until 10a as he had a 9a doc appointment. Well, the doc wanted a more thorough inspection of his issue and John finally joined me at 11:40a.

I did self launch the boat around 10a and the wind was crankin' from the east. Water temps around 74df. On my 1st drift, it was actually blowing me up river.

Then I got a text form John Durbin that he was just about to launch as he also had a doc appointment in the am. What is it with these old guys? Well, I now have a doc appointment tomorrow morning! lol

The MD side was muddy from the wind so I moved islands and fished the VA side of it. After a bit, I got bit!

This was a very FAT 15"er that fought like a tank on my L rod (using and inline spinner)!. Fun time!

I only got one more bite and a follow by a punk then John called to say he was close.  I picked him up and went up river.

While on the run, we saw the other John and had a quick chat.

When we got to where I wanted to go, there was a boat there. But he hollered at me and it was Pat Smith. The guy that convinced me to throw the inline spinner. They had caught a couple and we started fishing.

I got a subble bite and felt something heavy on my line but it was not acting like a smallie. John said it might be a kittie but there was no death roll. Once it got close to the net, we saw the big eyes and realized it was a walleye!

A nice 19"er!

Then I was able to get another smallie, this one went 13.5"!

John was still getting dialed in and had a couple of bites including one that ripped some line from the reel. We never saw it but it's haunting John.

Time was getting short since I had a short window today so we moved downriver a bit.

The big rock produced nothing and John saw some tree limbs in the water and suggested I make a toss with my crayfish plastic bait. Sure enough, I got bit!

Good lookin' largie!

John then got a tap, set the hook, and fought this nice 13.5125" smallie on a L rod!

In between catching fish, we ate lunch. John brought it. It was GOOD! Sorry...no pic. I forgot the rule about him always bringing lunch...mostly from Best Buns. Good stuff and thanks!

Boat is back in the barn for a few days while the river rises once again.

The time spent on the river today was not long but semi productive despite the full moon. We had a good time arguing about who talks more! lol

Time to go fishin' again!
