8-23-21, Severn River

Bill met me at the house at 6a and on to Truxtun Park (Spa Creek) we went.

It was beautiful out when we put in at 7:30a.

The tide was a flood tide as we had a blue moon overnight!  mad

As we went out of the creek at No Wake speed, my mind was racing as to where to go when we got to the washing machine...right or left.

There was some chop in the water (no biggie for my boat) but the wind was a bit more than anticipated.

We hit the radio towers and we th got the skunks off.

And then he got his 1st white perch!

We caught a few more here but it was slow and hard to fish so we decided to go in to the Severn.

The 1st stop was Marin's Pond which NEVER lets me down...

Fishing was SLOW at best and we struggled to catch a fish here and there. Everywhere there should have been fish, they were there but only one at a time. Doubles? Forget about it!! We caught a fish every 15-16 casts if we were lucky.

I was soooo disappointed because I've even done well in this pond using a fly rod.

Where are my perch????

We hit all the spots a few times but it was very disappointing.

We hit a couple other creek mouths and would think we were on them but once we caught 1 or 2, that was it.

Finally, I decided to head back and we stopped at the corner by the bridge in Spa Creek. All of the sudden, in 7-8 minutes, we caught 5 perch including one that went 10.5"! Nice pic Ernie...

But just like in the other places, no more.

Our final spot was the condo and nothing. Really?

Anyway, we had an enjoyable day. The breeze made it nice (but not for fishing) and we were satisfied that we did all the right things.

I was hoping to get Bill on more fish than just a dozen but that's fishing.  I hope he comes back to try again. He did all the right things...but the fish just did not cooperate.

Bill did say that if he got a quarter for every bite he had, he could probably buy a new boat. The fish were pecking but not biting.

We got home by 4p with just a couple of traffic slowdowns on the beltway. Victory!!

Good to see you got Bill out.  Sorry to hear the numbers were not to be had.  To go from 300 to a day like that can be frustrating.

The Severn is about quality (keeper size) not numbers like the Wicomico. Totally different environments.

Another percher friend said he has struggled this year on the Magothy.

It's definitely been a slower perch year in the Severn and Whitehall area for me this year too. I'm not sure if there are just more people fishing these past two years or what...

Looks like allot of fun despite the low numbers

A day on the water's always worth it

Re: 8-23-21, Severn River

I fished Cobb Island last Sunday for perch and whatever would hit. It like your trip was not on fire but we scored a dozen keepers. It was not gang busters like last year. We did run down river and hit Nomini Creek and got some convict bass but no keepers. Fun on popping cork since client never used one before. The river just seemed off. I put boat on trailer with 1 gallon of gas left in tank..cut that close. Had some trouble at gas station in the wee hours. Should have stopped at another station.
