9-1, Upper Potomac (Kephart to Algonkian) float report

We started the shuttle at 6:30 am this morning and we were all on the water just after 7 AM.

Paul Kordon and Wes Wakefield were in a canoe.....

Charlie Hill was on his homemade boat (assisted by his dad, Charlie Hill)....

Carlos Maceo was in his yak....

So the five of us put in at the Kephart Bridge Landing in Lansdowne and started to float down Goose Creek. We were all throwing different baits. I was throwing a white buzz bait and after the 3rd or 4th cast, I got a nice hit and this guy took the skunk off quickly!

It was a beautiful morning to say the least!!

Carlos had never caught a smallie before so when I heard him say "Fish On" I hurried over to take a picture but it was a blue gill!

He did catch his 1st a few minutes later but I was unable to get a picture.

Before we came in, Carlos nailed this little guy on a fly!

We had a nice day out there. Carlos ended up with 2 smallies and a blue gill. I will get Charlie, Paul and Wes to  report later but they each caught fish. I ended up with 6 smallies and 1 largemouth. The biggest was 12".

I underestimated the float time (we also spent too much time in Goose Creek) and we had to do some paddling in order to get back 1 hour late. This float is definitely worth doing again but it is an all day float. The great part about Kephart is that you can put in, float the Goose, fish the Potomac at the mouth of Goose (some nice deep water holes) and then paddle back to the ramp.

Great day out fishing with great friends!

It was great and we saw some bigger fish as we were paddling our tails off (we were late). I want to do this one again....easy float but definately not a half day float.

Sorry it took so long to get this post up.  It was great day of fishing, but didn't really get a chance to heavily fish any one area, but it was fun.  I ended up with four smallies and one bluegill.  Caught the first one on my third cast on a pop-r.  The rest I caught were on 2 1/2 inch tubes.  Nothing was big though.
