8-6-21, Wicomico River

Well...we went back there because George wanted some sausage and Leon had never caught a white perch before on ultra light tackle.

After our traditional breakfast at the Chaptico Market, we got on the water shortly after 8a to find some wind and waves at low tide.

I think Leon was ready...

We hit the 1st spot and George took his skunk off...

...but it was too shallow (low tide) and rough so we decided to make the long, bouncy and wet ride to St. Margaret's Island where we could get in a lee.

But...things happen. As George picked up the trolling motor, we herd a noise and the assist spring broke!

George likes to fix things and he had a solution to at least get the spring off. But I didn't want to lose (in the water) a bolt or screw so I made a Captain's decision to leave it as is and take the ride.

Once at St. Margaret's, Leon got his skunk off...

...as did I.

That cigar got lit early because I was frustrated with B.O.A.T (break out another thousand). After a few times of that spring getting tangled up in the prop, George did a great job of wrapping it around the shaft and we were able to fish!

While here, we caught a boat load. We were not counting but George was the early leader while Leon started to get the hang of it.

A bunch of doubles came aboard...

...as well as a triple!

More on triples later!

The wind and waves started to settle down which was nice.

This 10"er was the biggie of the day!

George spotted a peacock and I got a shot...it's somewhere near the rocks.

We were catching steadily and I told the guys we had to leave fish to find more fish.

And we did!

Then George got slammed and after a nice fight, we netted this near 19"er!

BTW, Leon was steady catching now but he stayed with catching just white perch.

I suggested we move from the sand bar a couple of times and got no takers but lunch was getting close so I told them we were moving to the mouth of Mrs. Wolfe's Cove. As we got near, I looked at the shore line before we got there and something told me to go there. So we did. And am I glad.

Here, we started catching from the beginning and it did not stop for 300-400 yards. I counted 10 triples! But we probably had more. Outstanding shoreline...1st time there for me!

We then made one more move and caught a few more but it was 1:30ish and Leon said that he could keep going or I pack it in. He said, "I've caught a lot of fish". Yep...most likely way over 100!

So we packed it up and to the market we went.

George had 5 pounds of sausage that he pre-ordered. I got a couple of pounds to add to the near 10lbs I have at home.

We got lunch and took off to D & S Marine so Jay can look at and fix my TM.

I had another stuffed ham sammie...

George had a head cheese sammie and Leon got the fried chicken. We were all satisfied with our choices.

The ride home went quick as we replayed the day.

I was happy for Leon that he could experience this fish catching phenomena!

Great times and a big thanks to Carl for showing me this place almost 40 years ago!

What a blast!  Sliced my fingers up messing with that spring, but Ernie came to the rescue with some tape.  Got home, dumped some H2O2 on the cuts and I'm good today.

Made another sausage sandwich this morning and packed up the rest for the freezer.

Wife's already planing meat loaf and spaghetti  sauce.

Thank you again Skipper - what a way to make adversity turn into adventure!  Great team work

Re: 8-6-21, Wicomico River

It was indeed a great day!  Ernie was the perfect host and positioned the boat to maximize my catch.  I've never caught so many fish in one day, at one point six casts in a row, fish on!  Catch rate to cast had to be close to 90%.  The market food was out of this world.  Can 't wait to go again (hint).
