Upper Potomac 7/9/21

I got out before sunrise.

Got on water at first light and headed near the island.  About 3rd cast with a Whopper Plopper, I got smashed and after a nice fight, I landed this 19" smallie.

I decided to float inside the island and it was a little while before I got bit again.  A 15"er blasted the Whopper Plopper.  I leaned back and reeled and it was hooked on it's side.  I netted it and it was going crazy, because it never fought.

It was not yet 6:00am.  I thought the day was going to be epic.  Fish were feeding around, but I did not get another bite.  I decided to run up and try the MD shore.

There were some fish feeding on the little minnows and Carp jumping, but I could not get another bite.  I ran up further after the sun got up, but that was a waste of time.  I may have gotten one bite dragging bottom.  Dark clouds were moving in, so I ran back toward the ramp.  Luckily, the rain petered out.  I finally got one 12"er to hit the little swim bait before calling it quits.  My TM battery was already getting low and bite was not on.

I got off the water by 11:00am.  Saw Ospreys, Eagles, Deer, lots of Heron and Egrets and some feeding Cormorants.  Nice morning.

Yesterday, when I ran on the VA side to get to the bottom of the chute, we saw several dozen cormorants. May bring my shotgun next time out!   mad

We saw all of that wildlife as well...right in our back yard!

The flash made it look darker than it was, but it was early.

My wife made me a tomato, lettuce and fresh cut Mozzarella sandwich on a Broiche bun.  I ate it when I got home.  It was delicious!
