7-8-21, UP

I'm starting to like fishing the UP again...that's what I built my boat for!

After a quick breakfast stop (6a) at the Filling Co. -Gas and Grub (yes, it was good), Greg and I splashed the boat around 6:30am. Only 1 yak at the ramp. And didn't see George.

Off we go!

We did a lot of top water at 1st since it was cloudy out, Greg with a Plopper and me with a Sammie. Both of us had fish on that got off. Felt good! Can't remember if Greg got one on top. He will have to tell us.

Greg got the skunk off 1st...

and then 3 more, the 1st of the 3 being a 16"er!!

Finally, I connected!

Most of the fish were 12-13" and plump...great fighters!

BTW, we did hook a few and lost them...8 in total for the day. These were fish that got off after they were on for a bit.

We had 2 other boats fishing around us so we made a move to increase our numbers some.

Greg connected 1st.

And again...

We moved out and went up river.

I had a hankering to fish the exposed rocks below the Goose so we gave it a go. We saw lots of baits skittering which was a good sign. In my opinion, these fish are keying on 2-3" minnows!@ Greg was throwing a more slender bait (like what John threw on Tuesday). I was throwing a fatter bait. Skinny was way better than fat today. Almost all oft he fish were caught on smallish SWM flukes.

While, here, we caught a few and lost a few more but it was very promising.

Greg even caught a LMB here...fairly good current but lots of breaks behind the rocks (boulders).

Glad we stopped!

We then went across to look for the log that sticks out. Could not find it until we got too close. A branch was on it which hid the log. As soon as we passed, Greg saw a fish. He threw in there and sure enough, he hooks up but it came off on a jump. I then threw behind it  and got hit!

We then moved back down river but got no more bites...plus, we were getting hungry.

It's really heartening to see some action again on the river.

Final tally was Greg with 9 fish (5 smallies and 5 LMB). Ernie with 3 smallies.

Great outing!!

Good luck!

Water was a little stained in places and there was some debris in the water but it was not a factor.

Biggest factor for me will be level.  1.5 is getting to my limit for running around.

Re: 7-8-21, UP

Great day as always....and even caught some fish!!!  Yes, my first fish was on topwater.  The 16 incher was a fun catch.  Everything went perfect.  Good hook set, played him to the boat, wore him out a bit so he was ready for the net..........but wait, I left a lure out with treble hooks and it is all tangled in the net!  So, Ernie expertly lays down and scoops him up at the side of the boat like a pro.  Team effort!  Surprisingly, Ernie left out the part about Cheesesteaks at the new Italian joint in Ashburn Village Shopping Center.  I can't remember the name.  They were excellent!!  When does Ernie ever forget to mention food??!!!??

Re: 7-8-21, UP

Yep…forgot about the plopper being entangled in the net. I was not happy since I like trebles so much. I told Greg, “I got this!” and up the gunnel she went!  I was as exited as Greg.

Carnegies of NY is the place we went to in Ashburn Village. Pretty good subs. Too hungry to take a pic.

On the ride back after we dropped the boat off, I mentioned to Greg that I had some Lance crackers in the cooler. He was not too happy that I didn’t bring them out. But heck, being hungry made the sub that much “more” better!
