Upper Potomac 6/24/18

Got out early and it was cool and foggy.  First one out by 5:30am.

Decided to stay closer and work the MD shoreline rather than run way upriver.  I floated near a current break and tried topwater lures, a hula jig, swim bait and my stinger rig.  Saw some fish surfacing, but no bites.  Decided to try a small crankbait and wham!  Fish on first cast.  It fought really hard for 3 or 4 minutes before I was able to net it.  A strong, healthy 18"er!

I threw the crank some more, but no other bites.  I decided to move up and float again.  Just then, Ernie and Bob came upriver.  Bob had caught one on topwater and they were headed upriver.  As soon as they left, I hooked a good fish on the hula jig.  I fought it for a minute and as it got near the boat it popped off.  Never saw the fish,  After a couple more drifts, I decided to run further upriver.

I stayed on the MD side as there was a little shade left.  I  hooked a decent fish on the crankbait, bit it came off just as I was reaching for the net.  Maybe 16".  A little while later I caught a 13"er on the swim bait.  Just drifting.

I lost a couple on the stinger and a better one on the hula jig.  The fish were winning!  I was happy to see baitfish feeding, grass was being hooked and fish were biting.  All promising signs.

I caught one 12.5"er in the hula jig, but no picture.  After the sun got high and wind picked up, I headed back.  I tried a few casts after eating my lunch, but was not getting any action, so I came back.  I was off the water by 1:30pm

Really nice day to be out!

That 18"er makes up for a lot of water straining...well done!

There's more in there.  I hope the grass comes in and gives them a place to grow.  Faster water with rock was what seemed to hold fish.  You only get one chance though.

That's some of what we fished...but they stuck out and created a nice eddy. We got more than 1 chance. I got 2 out of the same place ...one got away. Maybe it was the same fish.
