Beaverdam reservoir 5/17/21

Skunk-o!  I got out around 8:30am.. Later than I like.  I was concerned about my old battery, so I was planning to go against the wind so I would not have a big problem if I had to row back.  I fished a spinnerbait, buzzbait (too early for that), a ned-type rig, a grub on a SWM head, a chatterbait and a small crankbait.  Water was clear and there were some shad or white perch surfacing after a while.  I anchored for a little bit by the wall/ledge that has trees extending into the lake.  I might have hooked one on the crank moving down, but I never saw it and I think it threw the bait when it surfaced.  I should have set the hook harder.

Anyway,  when I brought up the anchor and was trying to move, nothjng from the TM.  I looked down and no propeller!  It must have been loose and came unscrewed.  That mean I had to row.  My square stern canoe does not track well due to flat bottom.  I took it easy and moved closer to the other shore so the wind would push me toward the ramp.  I tried to fish some more, but no bites.  The wind was shifting directions and after a while, I just decided to row back.

I was off the water and loaded by 1:00pm.  I ate my lunch in the car and headed home.

Nice day to be out, but PITA.  Luckily, I have an extra propeller.  Was not meant to be.

Did you have the extra prop in the boat? I keep extra pins and an extra prop with me at all times now....after learning the hardway once too.

I did not.  Especially in the canoe.  Too much crap already.  I keep pins in my tackle bag though.

I have broken props, but never just spun one off like that.

Re: Beaverdam reservoir 5/17/21

We were at a birthday party in Ashburn last Saturday (near Broad Run HS) and their back yard was full of cicadas - pretty cool.
