5-17-21, "O"

Bob and I wanted to hit LMB water today so we met at 7a and quickly launched the boat. As I was backing up in the water, I noticed that my wheel was turning but the boat was not. After a quick inspection, Bob noticed a broken cable...yep, steering cable.

We decided to fish around for a bit and I even caught one.

We actually had a few bites and something (fish or turtle) stole my wacky worm a couple of times.

Bob was attracting these guys...

On the way back in Bob says to me, "in my 65 years of boating, I have never seen a broken steering cable". Yep...but now you have!

The boat is now at D & S Marine in Waldorf and Jay gave it a once over and will fix a few things while he has it. There is nobody better than D & S Marine!

Yep, BOAT....I ended up doing a little boat maintenance too. I hit a log with my TM and it must have loosened some bolts/nuts and vibrated like crazy. Getting to little boats way up in the stern behind wires and electronics is a PITA...my arm is all cut up from stuff under there. I also replaced the 3 wet cell 27's for the TM, I was only getting about 5 hours at Little Seneca Lake (electric only), which seemed REALLY low to me. I put in AGM 31s, but I noticed some corrosion on one of the TM wire leads so maybe I had 1 bad wet cell battery.

Also, my speedometer isn't working, it's leaking but I don't know where from. I'll bring it to the dealer in late November when the season is done for a fix under warranty though.

It just never ends...but there are some days on the water that make it all worth it!

Sorry to hear about the boat issues, guys.  Makes my lost TM prop sound like nothing.  As long as no one is hurt and the issue is fixable, it is just part of the game.

At least you did not get skunked, Ernie!

This is my 7th boat so nothing surprises me.

The biggest boat failure was way back (12/06) when Jimmy, Curly and I were fishing the CBBT. We caught a boat load of fish!

At the 9' shoal, we cracked the hull (didn't know it then) and on the way back, the boat ran sluggish. We looked underneath  and saw that we were taking on water. Made a Pan Pan call. Curly bailed water with water bottle while the bilge tried to keep up.

That water is coming from INSIDE the boar!

Hull was totaled and I sold the rest of the boat for parts.

The boat brand was....PACEMAKER.

Re: 5-17-21, "O"

Jay at D&S just worked on my boat. Runs better now. I had a Tracker 17 that split down the hull first time out in some narly conditions. They replaced just the hull and fitted the insides very badly and mounted my engine but did not tighten the bolts. Anyway two months later a stress crack formed in the same location on the hull. Had it welded and sold the boat immediately. Swore I would never buy another tracker. But bought my Mako from Bass Pro and it sits on a POS Tracker trailer. 5 to 8 weeks for new axles..tap tap waiting.
