5-11-21, "O"

George and I decided to hit the "O" today but in the other direction.

It was a nice morning out as we slowly made our way to our destination.

When we got there, we encountered very stained water but at least it had some green on.

The tide was slack as was the fishing....for 2 hours, we (George) had 1 hut and a few perch nibbles.

We saw another boat in there but they left early. We did talk to them at the ramp and they told us they had no fish where we were but we decided to stick it out.

Since the fish were not on the grass edges, we started to hit some wood across the way and George finally connected...

...at 10:45a!! Skunk off...finally!

Then he says, now it's your turn and within a few seconds, I scored!

They were relating to wood.

Then we missed a couple and caught a couple more.

Then George gets whacked and he declares it was an 8lb bass!!

A few minutes later, I get on one and it's, "oh boy, this one is big"!.

After a nice battle, George expertly netted this 29.5" snakehead!

No scale so 7-8-9lbs is the guess. Caught it on a wacky worm. 1st time for that...and bent my hook!

Shortly thereafter, George strikes again!

By this point, the tide was almost out and we were losing water. Got stuck a few times.

Right before we left, I was able to score!

Shortly before 1p, we motored out, sucking in mud and grass with the low water. But...we knew we had  n important target to hit so we finally got on plane and back to the ramp. And on to Brickmakers!!

Great job guys!!!  Always love reading the reports of our local waters.  Even with teleworking, I feel that I've been busier than ever....so these reports remind me to take a break and get my line wet!!

Food coma time after eating that Po' Boy
A good time was had by all.  The number of raptors flying over head was amazing.  One even scored a fish right next to the boat.
We saw allot of birds in the lily pads that just didn't look like heron.  Thought they may have been cranes? - but not a birder so couldn't really tell.
Thx again Ernie

Did a little research on those birds we saw

http://www.pwconserve.org/wildlife/bird … #checklist

No cranes on the list at the “O”.  I talked to a bird watcher this morning and he said they’ve all migrated north by now

Definitely wasn’t a pelican

https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Ame … Pelican/id

Wasn’t a American Bittern either

https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/American_Bittern/id

So even though the birds we saw did not look like the great blue heron we know on the Potomac, I’m thinking it may have been one?

Here's a Potomac heron:
