I decided to get out before the rain and try my luck. I got on the water a little after 7:00am. It was foggy.
I did not travel as far as usual. The water was stained and was at the peak of a bump to about 4.7 feet. I decided to see if there was clearer water next to an island. I anchored in a promising spot and after a few casts, caught this healthy 17.5"er that put up a strong fight in the current.
It bit the wacky stinger. I tried a tube and a ned, but no more bites.
Things dried up for a while. I drifted and anchored. Tried small cranks, tubes, ned, jig and spinnerbait. Water was getting more stained in the main river. I considered going further up, but decided to just continue. I finally got one more fish on the stinger in a shoreline eddy. This one was only 13", but very dark and thick.
Neither fish looked really spawned out, but the first one could have had some tail wear. The clouds thickened and the wind picked up a little, so I got off the water before 1:00pm.
I did see some surface feeding, so topwater time is about here. Lots of dead bugs on the water and some flying.

Good looking fishies...
Seeing the underbelly could reveal if they have spawned. Could you tell?
We almost went yesterday with the rising conditions but decided on Fletcher's.

The first one had a belly. Looking back at the picture, I thought there might have been slight tail wear, but I did not see it when I held the fish. Second one was pretty chunky, but not really fat.
No obvious signs of having spawned to me.

What I meant was that if they have not spawned, their belies would be swollen and their exit port would be pinkish. If they are not ready to spawn, they are just fat.
Some say they spawn in stages sometimes. Next full moon is in 19 days.
And they could be fat males as well. Not too much competition for food.

I should have taken some pictures of the big trees that have fallen. There is a HUGE one that is right on the edge now. The island is getting hammered and is shrinking.

Can't hurt to get some shoreline structure back. Hasn't been the same since it all washed away.

That's what I was thinking. Only issue is that more high water pushes it up on the shore. Lots of trees like that and the wider river just makes the shorelines more shallow when levels drop. At least there are a few better fish and it would be great to get some grass this year. May even get a decent spawn in!
