5-6-21, DC 'mac

I sent Bob the following message yesterday afternoon:

1. Are the hicks really gone at the "O"?

2. Do we give Fletcher's a run? Some hicks left plus A-shads. And maybe stripers and kitties.

3. Algonkian is easy but a long run up to where I wanna go fish. It will be a chilly ride.

4. POR is your longest land run and another boat run (not as long as Algonkian) to get to the rocks. But new water for you.

After much deliberation (and a fish pic sent to me by a Fletcher's river rat), we decided on Fletcher's.

We met at Gravelly Point at 7:30a (lots of cars parked there, a few boats) and made it to Fletcher's Cove by 8:45a.

We parked in a known A-shad spot.

After Bob took the skunk off with a hick...

...he got an American.

Lots of these around.

It was slow there though. We watched a guy close by a he was picking off one here and there. So I decided to go to my favorite spot and I got my 1st and a bunch more including some white perch and a striper by Bob.

After it slowed, we then went back to spot #1.

But there was a crowd so we moved down river a bit.

We caught a few and then I spotted a fella that looked familiar...

...yep, Jack Turner was picking off a few hicks and also got an American.

The last spot produced nicely and we ended the day with 35 fish (18-17 in Bob's favor).

A good friend of mine (Jon Griffiths) is a local DC guide and he said this: "Hickory shad have slowed way down on the river.  A few white shad around but you have to be in the right spot at the right time."

We agree...the run is waning for sure. Still, we had a good time a caught a few!

Always a scenic ride back!

As we came back to the ramp, I saw, "the boat". I heard about this boat from Jon.

It's made out of storage crates!

Glad the winds were calm for you today and you got on some fish!

Such a small world...John Griffiths is high school buds with a friend of mine that I know from our kids' daycare.

The winds never really laid down. It was a PIA but we managed.

Jon is as good a fisherman as there is. He is nuts (in a great way) and passionate. The best of the best!!
