20 in 20!

Bob and I went back and forth yesterday discussing whether to go or not today. The forecast looked dubious at best. But...we decided to go and if we got blown out, so be it.

We got on the water by 7:30a and all looks good. At 7:40a, I caught the 1st shad!

By 8a, we had 20 shad and a few misses! Good sign?

We had a slight SE breeze which actually held the boat in the spot. Many times, we said we should move but I could see schools of shad on the meter so we stayed.

We caught many doubles (both of us with one at the same time) and doubles (two fish at a time).

The weather was perfect. We were shedding layers during the morning of catching! We were giddy! I really thought we would only get a couple of hours in today.

John Odenkirk had 2 crews out there shocking to get samples. Very few snakies but a ton of really nice bass were "caught" by the shocking.

Around 11a, the wind shifted drastically and it cooled off. So did the fishing...for about 10 minutes.

As we all know, Bob generally kicks my butt but I was up on him all day. And I did everything I could to keep his rods out of the water including a near neck hook up!

Luckily, he didn't throw me overboard.

So, we just kept catching.

I must say that Bob had more break offs and snafus than normal which kept me in the lead comfortably.

Around noon, we were nearing the 140 mark and it started to rain a bit. I was whipped. At 12:05p, I looked at the radar and saw a big red blotch coming at us and said, "we are out of here"! Bob was 1 short from 60 so I told him to keep fishing until I got everything ready.

Literally, as I started to motor back, Bob gets hit and lands #60. Add that to my 80 and it was a grand total of 140 shad in 4 hours and 25 minutes of fishing. Holy smokes, were we stoked!!

But we had to high tail it back as the wind was now 20-30mph and was raining hard.

A flawless retrieve of the boat had us at Brickmaker's in no time...and I have PICTURES!!!!

What a day!!

At the dock, Odenkink says to me, "man, Curly has those fish dialed in at LKA"! I said, "heck yea, the man has gills"!

Wow, you were brave and it paid off! Way to go.

By the look of that bandage, I thought Bob had surgery. Was it as bad as it looks?

We were brave to get to the ramp at 7:15a, not knowing what the weather was gonna be like because of the forecasts. Once we did, there was no question to go. But when it got to 11a, I knew we didn't have long. When I saw the radar...it was time to go! We were safe though.

He had 2 areas that got cut. One was just on the surface but the hook dug a nice trench on the other one. Dr. Rojas took care of things!

Ernie owed me a hit from last year's perchin'. It was a good tactic, it's hard to fish in front of you while looking behind you. Hopeful, next time he'll use a softer dart.

I was throwing a baitcaster and I am always mindful of boat/angler position when I cast it. Apparently, not this time. I was also fishing from the middle of the boat which gets me closer to Bob. The reality is that it must have been subconscious because he always beats me! These BFS rods/reels are super light and fun but I should have paid better attention. It's no biggie with a spinning rod.

Was glad to see Bob post...he's alive!

That brat that Bob has is something special. Smoky and delicious. I like it with some of their chili on top.

The burger I had was mushrooms, cheese, bacon and a double patty. It was goooood.

I've yet to go to Fletcher's this year because the "O" experience checks all the boxes!

Bruce- Unlike when we went out last week, we had no green snot to deal with on this day. You were probably right when you said that if the snot got on the dart early, there was no way we would catch fish.

I wonder if the lack of rain between our trip and this one allowed slowed the amount of water coming down river and reduced the "snot" it was carrying. Maybe the slower/lower water allowed the "snot" to drop lower in the water column and not be suspended up where our lures were.

What ever the reason, I was glad it was gone! We did pick up some "caterpillars" but it was only once in a while.
