Every year, I get to take this float with John. But last year, we were Covided out.

We put in at Seneca (MD) and the water looked good.  It was damp and chilly when we started.

Duncan McGrath was ready to row and away we went!

Up front, I will say that Duncan rarely measures or weighs a fish unless they are close to Citation size. No time to be wasted on all that silliness.

John was all fly, I went 80% spin and 20% fly.

My 1st fish was a chunky one.

As was John's!

We got a few more but no pics....

John then hooked up with this fatso that was 19"+!

And then lost as nice of one that got off before he got to the boat.

The good thing was that we were getting bites and missing a few fish. There was action!

A couple more nice ones...

Then, John get hit and a big fight ensues including a tail walk by a really big smallie!. After the 2nd or 3rd jump, the fish spit the hook...right by the boat. I could have reached out and touched it! heartbreak! Twice!!

Towards the end, I got bit and landed this nice 19"er!

I think I caught another mid teens fish before we packed it in.

John caught a half dozen fish. Picture taking is harder from a raft so we didn't go a great job of it.

For the day, it stayed chilly until lunch which we had on a beach. Then, we got some sun and it warmed to the mid 60's but we really didn't feel it until we got off the water at Riverbend.

This is what we saw when we pulled up to the ramp...

This is a great float because Duncan knows all the scours behind the right rocks. Often, I would ask him if I could cast in a certain place and he would warn me not to. When I did, I learned why he said what he said.

It's always a learning experience when you go out with a river rat!

Wow, that is a great day!  Too bad on the big ones.  What did they bite?  I spent too much time on shoreline eddies.  I think the colder weather had them more mid-river.

Congrats!

All the fish were behind rocks...in eddies.

Mine came on a tube, I used 3 different colors. They were bottom hugging.

Fun trip. Estimate on how big John’s lost fish was?

They always look bigger in the water. Still, it was big. As big as the 19"ers we caught? Perhaps.  tongue   roll
