3-12-21, 'doah

We'll begin by giving Bill Pearl a big thanks for taking me to the 'doah a few weeks back, on his boat, and showing me where I can launch and fish with my boat.

Today, Bob was gonna be on board but his son called him to go work on their boat so he had to bail. Family time is always good!

Last Wednesday, George and I were originally supposed to fish the 'doah but he had an appointment in the AM and I had an important family call in the PM so we did the UP.

Even though I knew George had said that he didn't want to fish twice this week, when I told him it was the 'doah, he quickly checked his schedule and told his boss he had an important event to attend.

We put in around 8:30a. It was cloudy and cool but we were prepared.

Water temps were 52-53 all day long and the water was a beautiful green with plenty of visibility.

To get to some of the honey holes, there are two ledges that must be navigated. I was not concerned about the 1st one but there was some butt pucker as I navigated up the 2nd one. But we did it just fine and high fives where in order.

Then it rained for a bit but luckily, it stopped after 40 minutes or so. There was virtually no wind.

I stopped a few places and got no bites but then found a nice eddy where George took the skunk off (15.25") ..

...and then added another (13").

I was happy for him for sure!

For some reason, I could not find the honey hole so I told George we were gonna motor up a bit.  Well...on our way up, we found the honey hole. We were going to attack it after lunch.

We stopped to have  lunch...

Because this was a short notice trip, I told George I would get my own sammie...which was good.

Then I looked at his!

Man that looked good!

Now it was time to fish. We worked every square inch of a 2-3 acre area and all I had was one bite and George got a feisty 12" er.

We were perplexed!! The area is deep with a ledge at the top. I think we marked 22' as the deepest.

I suspect that when we caught those fish last month they were just laying down on the sandy, soft bottom and we (Bill and I) found them! They were note here today.

Not a bad place to spend the day...

After a bit, we motored down river and came up on the tough ledge. Even though I thought I read it right, we bumped bottom a bit but came through unscathed. After thinking about it, I would have gone down even faster but would have made a quick adjustment to get through the rocks.

Bottom line. All is OK and I learned some more stuff.

We fished some more by the ramp but we called it a day around 3 pm.

The ramp is nice, just a little steep. The ride out is beautiful as we took Rt. 50. It's about 70 minutes from my house.

Another great expedition in the books!

Nice looking river, looks a lot more narrow than to UP (deeper too). Glad you didn't lose the day, and had a fish story to share.

Awesome day on the water.  Rain was light, then got a little medium for about 20 minutes, then the sun started braking out through the clouds.  Glad to see that VA spent some money working on the ramp.  They did a good job.

Running up river was a breeze.  We fished fishy looking places, played in some water that was to fast, and did some exploring.  New water for me.

Bites were real soft.  Had to watch the line like a hawk.  The last one was a tick so set the hook.  Tubes were the key and color mattered yesterday.

Along with that sandwich, Ernie had an appetizer.  We're running and he stops and started coughing up a bug.  It's spring so the bugs are out.  Saw bees, heron, birds, and even heard a deafening sound of the peepers.

Thx again for the opportunity to explore new waters.
