As we all know, Ernie hates treble hooks and has for years. Before finding out about replacement in line single hooks, I had sold off most of my hard baits. Hate trebles!
Once I discovered the in line hooks, I started re accumulating hard baits, especially jerk baits which I love to throw. However, many longer jerk baits have 3 hooks and even though I could take off the middle hook (changes balance), I didn't like it so I got rid of those baits.
Now, I think I found a solution for these 3 hook jerk baits.
We'll see how it works...

Nice red-neck engineering

Pradco produced Smithwick deep diving suspending jerk bait. I see the screws have been used to hold the bill and eye in place. When they first bought Smithwick lures Pradco just glued the lip in. The eye was just melted into the bill. The original one had a wire to the eye run to the first hook hanger. It was much stronger and also had bit more weight. I notice with the steel balls on chin,,,so it may not suspend any more..giggity

I may try it out this afternoon out back and let you know. Those beads on the chin are stock.

I've never seen those beads on a jerk bait

Interesting lure...it floats. Butt end sticks up when it hits the water but it dives down deep nicely. If you stop the retrieve or jerk, it slowly floats back up.
Didn't catch any but enjoyed a nice stogie!

First of all, cool idea! I think I may have one of those with the balls. I will have to check. I bet Curly would like it.

It's a fairly thin bait...

Ernie....are you sure you're not from the hills of virginia and west virginia? cause that is some redneck genius right there!

The idea came from this unidentifiable lure that was donated to the cause.
I just kicked it up a notch.
I did grow up in Falls Church, does that count?

You could get a coffee scale so you could weigh the hooks you're replacing so that you know how much weight you need to put back on.

The replacement hooks are not an issue, I put on what I think is best for the lure. Usually, I put the bigger of the two up front. Some bigger lures get both hooks of the same size.
That lure "floats" the way it does because of the 2 beads under the lip.
