The 1st time I took Jamie out for a perch trip, it was in early October a couple of years back. We got skunked...they had left the shallows. Jamie then lost his interest.
But this time, after a bit of boasting about the good fishing we have had lately, we scheduled it right and we went out of Chesapeake Beach. We were in search of his 1st white perch and also to see if we could get him one on the fly.
It was a bit sporty when we got out to the bay. We tried the jetty and that was difficult.
We tried the glass house but it was rough but I was able to get my skunk off.
I know it would be calmer on the other side of Holland Point so off we went.
We tried outside the Spanish house but nothing so we went in.
I told Jamie where one of Bob's favorite places was and next thing I know, Jamie is hooked up....with a 10.5" perch as his 1st one ever!
And then some more!
And I got some too!
Some nice quality fish in here but it was not on fire.
I then told Jamie we were going to fish the jetty over at Herrington Harbor so off we went but something told me to go somewhere else.
Here, we were protected and Jamie was able to use the fly rod.
He scored nicely for sure!
The red was a 10 spotter!
And a small striper to complete some kind of a slam!
He was giddy....
I then said, "let's try the jetty we nave made it to". And again, something told me to make a stop. We were in 2' of water and there was bait bustin' all over the place. I threw at a branch and scored a red!
Well, we never went to the jetty and the next stop was the hole Bob and I crushed the perch last week.
While we did not do as well, we caught at least a dozen perch over 10' but not quite to 11".
It was almost time to go so we went back to the glass house where I scored a nice striper. I told Jamie to make a cast towards a pole and boom! He scored a 16-17" striper on his 5wt!
Now it was time to go so we headed in. As we entered the harbor, I saw a boat coming out and he just stopped. I looked at the side of the boat and it said "Gull Chaser". I told Jamie, I know that boat from somewhere!. Yep, it was Bob and his wife. He had come down to fix his trailer and since he had to put the boat in the water, he just had to fish.
And he did get some!
We ended the day at a very good Mexican Restaurant in North Beach.
Great day...a little sporty but we found plenty of good quality fish!

Glad you guys had a good day. Also glad you liked Plaza de Mexico, one of our go to eateries. I handed you wrong info on striper season, it re-opened yesterday 9/1. One fish per person, 19" or greater.

Looks like an awesome day! Love the Key West. I think the 23' Bay Reef is my dream boat when I move out of Potomac.

Fancy meeting Bob in the harbor. Nice boat O!
Nice to see the mixed bag - and did the size of a keeper stripper come down?

Maryland lowered the size to 19" last season. The PRFC kept the Potomac at 20".
Thanks for the goodies, they'll be put to good use.
