I decided to do an early morning trip to see if anything would bite topwater. I was on the water before 5:30am with a nice sunrise.
I ran upriver and tried the mid-river area. I threw a 90 size Whopper Plopper, but decided that was not the ticket. I tried a buzz bait and a few sub-surface lures. I was seeing some topwater activity and kept going back to the little buzzer. I finally got one to slurp it down and decent 15"er gave me a nice fight on a ML setup.
After that, the bite died down. I tried different areas, but then stuck with mid-river when it got shallow. After quite a few casts, a 13"er blasted the buzzer. He was hooked twice and it took me a minute to get it off, so no picture. Not injured.
The bite slowed down when the sun got up, so I tried my UL with a 4" lizard. After a while, I got a bite and landed this feisty 12"er.
I kept floating and finally got some action closer to the ramp. It caught 2 more smaller bass and lost one that looked to be about 15-16" as I was trying to net it. It pulled good and jumped out of the water twice.
I was getting close to the ramp, so I called it a day and was off the water at 11am. Best day for numbers on the UP in maybe 2 years. Had to finesse them.
