John Durbin and I met up at POR at 8:40a and were on the river shortly there after.

We chose to run down river.

Water temps were 51-52df all the time we were there.

Partly cloudy skies, no wind and a very slight breeze after lunch.

As always, we fished hard but could not get a bite.

We decided to run a bit and look around and remembered that there are some deeper spots near Noland's Ferry. So we attacked!

As we drifted a bit, we stopped and I got a follow on my soft plastic swim bait which I was fishing slowly and erratically. I saw the fish flash, gave my bait some slack and this nice 14.5"er came on to the boat. This fish was fat, healthy and active. It just would not hold still.

John saw what happened and he threw a ribbed paddle tail and bam, he got hit! As he brought it in, the fish came unbuttoned!

Looks like we found a honey hole!

Well...not to be as we did not get any more bites there.

We went to a couple of other places and found a nice deep hole in front of this.

We didn't get any bites but did give some kids a thrill when we took off hard and fast  right in front of them. They liked it!

We finished out at 2p with only the 2 bites.

The Upper  'mac still bites!

Thank you for the river adventure, Ernie.  Always a great time on the SS Rojas.   Those Potomac smallies are dodgy critters.

Forgot to mention that while casting my older St. Croix Avid (6'3"), and a favorite, I though I had hit another rod while casting. I looked around and John was up front and here was nothing. I did it again and we both heard the same sound.

Upon further review, I saw this.

It's on it's way to St. Croix along with a few dollars. Not sure if they will do much but we shall see.

Got a lot of fish on that rod!

Re: 3-27-20, UP

And now, "The rest of the story"!

I sent the broken rod back to St. Croix along with an $85 check per the online instructions. The rod arrived just as they were shutting down some of their ops due to C19. I called and they had a skeleton crew and assured me they would get to the rod when they came back That was around the beginning of April.

So I waited.

On Monday, out of the blue, Andy from St. Croix calls and we start discussing options. He asks me if I stepped on the rod and I said "no way, I was casting when it fell apart". He asked me again if I broke it another way and I no, it was by casting and I have a witness (although a shaky one   lol ).

Anyway, he says that he does not have that model but has one that's close but I was hoping for a split grip and he said he could do that for an extra fee.

But here's the deal. These guys are more than fair. He tells me he is gong to rip up my $85 check and that he needs a credit card to charge $40 for a brand new Avid X (AXS68MXF)!  I said, "no way", keep the $85 and I am good"!

Nope. He want to be fair. It's $20 for shipping and $20 for the upgrade.

To say I am happy with St. Croix is an understatement!!

And...it just arrived!

I was actually "arguing" to pay more and he would not have it. I bet I told him to keep the $85 at lest 5 times.
