3-2-20, UP x 2

Well, I have caught smallies each month so far this year...March will have to wait.

Bill picked me up at 6:30a and on to Washington Co. we went. It's a little over an hour ride up there. We put in at Taylor's landing at 8:30a. And it was a very chili 31-32df!!

But before we left, we had a little chat with MD DNR. They were there to shock up some Musky. He asked if we were going musky fishing and we said that we were after smallies. His next comment was troubling. He said smallie fishing is better down by POR. What?? Apparently, smallie fishing below Dam 4 has gone bad.

Still, we headed up...

..and by 9a, Bill had the skunk off with a little walleye.

***Picture should be here but the camera man (me) didn't take it for some reason...

He caught a couple more and then I finally took my skunk off!

We fished hard but it only produced another small one for Bill (4 in total). The opportunities were there...beautiful place!

We fished until 10:30a and then made the decision to head over to Brunswick while we ate our Santini's sammies on our ride over.

Back on the river we went!

We decided to go up river to Knoxville Falls and work eddies.

That we did for about 2 hours and then we decided to call it a day. Temp was now very nice...mid 60s! Was home before 3...

The water we were fishing was beautiful. Pockets, eddies, seams...you name it. We camped in some spots for a while and NO BITES!

Our poor river is in trouble or we suck at finding them!

Beautiful looking spots.  At least you caught something.  I missed out on a February smallie, so you got me beat.  I was able to finish my boat floor today, so at least there is hope for March.

Those are some pretty looking spots. You were able to get there and fish them so I consider that a win!

Together we'll fight the long defeat.

Agreed...the hope of a catch is always there and the surroundings (and company) were top notch!

Not sure if you know John Hayes, fishing guide, but he echoed what DNR is saying, last year around this time! His theory is that Maryland sprayed that area for black flies.
I'm sure you know the rest of the story. I've also heard it from others. I personally cannot vouch for it but SOMETHING is wrong and I don't think it's just the floods from 2 yrs ago.

I do know John and have talked to him and many other river rats. I am not a scientist but more than a casual observer. I would be the last one to "blame" something other than my fishing skills. But...there has to be something wrong fo' sure!

A good friend also fished the Knoxville Falls area on Sunday and got blanked.
