11-5-19, UP

After voting this morning, John met up at Algonkian with a plan to run up river in search of the lost smallies.

We were on the water by 9a and fishing by 9:30a,

Our 1st target was a rock wall with some current and an eddy. John connected 1st and got this nice 16"er!

Excellent start...we were stoked!

I then got hit hard and I could not catch up with the fish. Kept taking line. I tried like all get out to get it to the net and both john and I saw that my drag was set really loose. And just like that...see ya! We never saw the fish but it did get the adrenaline running.

I think John got another bite at this spot but we decided to try somewhere else. We went further up river and drifted a familiar area, John managed to catch 2 more smallies,  11.5" & 10'.

We tried a new area that looked promising but no dice so we floated a bit and then went back to the 1st spot.

Here, I got 3 bites. The 1st one was an 15.5" LMB that gave me no fight at all.

The next bite felt like another LMB but it was this clump...

...felt the same!

The next bite was another big fish. It took a semi jump behind the boat but I still could not see what it was. As John got ready to net it...ping! The leader broke (not at the knots) and it was gone. Another rush.

Both lost fish were operator error. 1. Check your drag! 2. Check for nicks on your leader!

We fished a few more areas but no bites so we went to the mouth of c creek and John wailed away on LMB!

He caught 7 LMBs here. I caught 2. All were smallish with John getting the biggest at 12.5". But...they were all well fed!

We decided to run back and fish the walleye hole and we saw this guy!

But we got no bites so we called it around 4:30p...as the sun was setting!

I truly dislike these shortened afternoons...

All in all, we caught 10 fish! Can't remember the last time we had double digits. Many thanks to the LMB for saving the day.

Tubes, swim jigs, double curly tails were the best baits. John did get a smallie on a hard jerk bait.

Time to go fishin' again!

Re: 11-5-19, UP

The SS Rojas strikes again!  Thanks for the ride and it was good to catch some numbers for a change (at least for the current UP).  Interesting to see the changes.  Hopefully, the weather will not get too cold for a couple more weeks.

Love your description of green fish compared to a clump of leaves

I thought my bigger smallie was a stick.  Fish were lethargic in the morning.
