The quest for perch, 8-8-19

Ernie and I kayak fished for perch today at an undisclosed location. It was really a beautiful day with decent temps and calm winds. While I wasn't able to better my standing in the perch tourney, Ernie is on the board. I'm sure he's almost home and will soon post his story. I will say it was nice having someone there to share the catfish.

YES... That's Ernie with one of his many. He was having more fun than those poor souls on that undisclosed bridge in the background.

For my part, I discovered there is something worse than catching a catfish. Surprise.... it's catching two catfish at the same time.

Re: The quest for perch, 8-8-19

My story is that I am worn out!

Those pesky 5-10lb cats put a hurting on you especially with the arsenal I was using. Each rod I caught a cat on became U- shaped.

I used a 5'8" ULM, a 6'10" ULF, a 7' LF and an ExLight M baitcaster.

What a work out!!

We were on the water shortly after 7a...

...and we had to peddle about a mile.

Not sure what the name of that bridge is.

We split up and we scored right away...

..and continued to catch many a perch!

Bob has a solid lead in the SRRKC WP contest but at least I had 3 that scored and got me on the board.

Luckily, I did not catch any cats early on. They were attracted to Bob!

He then said something to me and jinxed me!

But he wanted in on the action...

And some more!!

I think I caught 5 cats. My biggest came off as I was using the boga...totally straightened out the hook!

One of the best non cat hits was when I got this keeper striper (20.5")!

I thought I had Moby perch at 1st!

Then back to cats...

Off the water and on the road before 2p and only a few traffic delays coming home.

Oh, this place is so secret that we have never seen anyone else fishing there. There is a guy who works in the building nearby and he takes a rod out on his paddle board at lunch. But he looks for stripers. Truth of the matter is that very few people chase WP like we do. I like it like that!!

Great stuff guys. I can't believe how catfish are taking over the bay. They are everywhere north of the Potomac.

But these are channel cats not the invasive blue cats.
