7-19-19, Chesapeake Beach

The forecast called for a very hot day but little wind. So Bob and I decided to go get some perch so he can have some perch sammies.

Typically, when we put in at CB, we hit the jetties 1st. But something told me not to stop there (to Bob's bewilderment) and head down to the Spanish house.

We actually started a drift in Herring Bay to get the kinks out but we didn't catch any.

But the target area was near by and it did not disappoint. We were at the mouth (between the two piers) and immediately started catching fish.

These were the 1st two!

We were catching some fat blackbacks....over a dozen went in the cooler and they were all 10.5" or bigger! It was game on in front of the Spanish House.

We stayed in there for quite a bit even though we had other places to explore and we knew that was coming.

Here are 2 more biggies!

There was another guy fishing the way we were but we held our ground (spot lock rules) and he fished around us. He said he caught about 25. I think we had that many in the 1st 30 minutes...or less!

We stayed in here for close to 2 hours, hardly ever moving except to free a lure.

The tide was falling and slowing so we decided to move.

We caught a few here and there but nothing like what we did in our spot.

My best 3 fish were an almost 12", an 11.5" and a 11.75". That would be a great start for the SRRKC WP tourney but it doesn't start until August. I didn't keep track of Bob's numbers but they were somewhere close to that.

I don't know how many fish we caught, maybe 100+... but we had a blast. I think Bob may have caught a few more than me.

Then it got hot so we decided to finish up at the jetties where it was slow. We did catch a dozen or more WP and this nice 17" striper that had my hopes up as I though it could be a monster perch!

We were off the water by 11:45a, rinsed the boat and I was on the road home by 12:15p.

It was so hot, that I skipped lunch!

Great start to Chesapeake perch season!

You're more heat tolerant than me, I stayed off the boat this weekend. Nice catching!

I did stop at Chik-fil-A after I put the boat in the barn. Spicy chicken sammie!

It's not bad if you're are willing to drive 80-90 minutes to fish for only a 1/2 day...the jumbos made it worth while!
