I've been fishing when the current drops.
Success is a few palm-sized red eyes. A sardine smallie, a rough chub or a bluegill.
Tonight I was pitching a generic 1/16 grub. That happened to be blue w chartreuse tail.
Before I even set out I needed to respool. I got a roll of stren 4# original.
That went pretty smooth. I tell you, I find myself out of practice, and annoyingly clutzy some days. It's like if I dont do it regularly, I almost have to relearn.
Tying knots with worn out mono? Forget that. All thumbs and reading glasses.

I hear you on that, brother!

At length I found waters edge. The rear of the property. I worked my way into the current and began lobbying jigs.
The water was moving but still gentle enough to allow a j&p style retrieve.

After some studied failure, I worked my way up to the best producing feature.
I was pleased by a pickup, then impressed by the power of a 14" smallie.
It was deep dusk. That was my best fish yet

I'd begun to doubt a fish that large was in that creek.
Although mentally, I envisioned the depth to be adequate for something better than what I'd been getting.

I like tying knots when it's bright out...other times, not so much.

I moved to new water, about 1/2 mile downstream.
There, a tree:complete with rootball, pretty much lay right in the middle. The tree afforded more fish than I counted. Over a dozen anyway. Mainly nice red eyes. Smallies and blue gill variants as well.
