I got out on the water at 9:00am. It was chilly and sunny (40 degrees or so). Water level was 4.2 at POR and the water is mostly clear. After a quick stop to check a nearby eddy, I ran up river. I fished a partially flooded island and got my first smallie on a small chartreuse and black crank. It was 14.25".
I threw the crank again and worked it upstream and quickly got a bite. It was a 17"er.
I tried for a while, but got no more bites there. The water was a little more stained in that area. I decided to float inside an island to see if the fish were biting there. It also protected me from the wind. It was getting cloudy and felt chilly. I finally caught a 14.25"er on a finesse jig near a creek inflow. It was pretty messed up with a lesion on it's gill plate.
A while later I caught a 15"er on a chatterbait near an eddy.
That was it for the inside of the island. I headed back to the main river and worked structure on the MD shore. I figured something out with quite a bit of wood structure on the shoreline. I ended up catching 2 and losing one that would have been a bigger fish on a ned head with a 3" Ika. The next spot I hooked one on a tube. After that I caught 3 more fish on a ned head with a hula stick. It was getting late and chilly, so I left with 9 smallies landed. Most of the later fish were 12-13" so no pictures. I was off the water by 5pm. Better numbers day.
