Lower Potomac 3/25/19

Hookup e-mailed me yesterday asking if I wanted to go out fishing today.  I looked and saw forecasted rain would not start until after 2pm, so I said sure.  We decided to hit the Tidal Section of the river as the Upper is too high.

I picked him up at 6am and we decided to fish until 2pm.  The tides were not in our favor, with us arriving at low tide.  The water was stained to muddy and we saw some shad and or herring flitting on the surface.  There was a big Osprey in a tree right near the ramp.

It was quite a while before we caught any fish.  At least the weather was sunnier and warmer than we expected.  After the tide came more than halfway in, George got the skunk out of the boat.

He got another bite, but lost the fish soon after.  About 5-10 minutes later, I switched from a swimbait to a chatterbait and got bit near the shore.  It was a chunky 17 incher.

We thought the fish had turned on, but we got no more bites from that spot.  We moved slowly along the shoreline toward the takeout and got into one more flurry.  George struck first with his Skinny Dipper getting another bite.

Then I got bit on a Keitech swimbait shortly after.

We both missed a bite and then the bites stopped.  We made our way to the ramp and finished right around 2pm.  No skunk, but much slower than I was hoping for with Spring starting.  We got home as the weather turned cooler and rain sprinkles started.

Nice job gents!

Did you see any gar frolicking around? They too flit the surface.

I do not think they were gar, but the water was pretty stained.  No snakehead either.  We did see some carp surface.
