We've all been there. I drive old cars so mine come on once in a while. The '05 Malibu's light came on so I took it to the shop to get it fixed.
While I waited for the car to be ready, I drove the '02 Silverado. Oh, oh! Check Engine Light on! Double whammy!
Unrelated (at the time), I left to drive to the shop and Debbie (who was behind me), said she saw a dead squirrel on the street but it was not "smushed".
The cost to repair the Malibu was not too bad but the indications for the Silverado where not good. We had 2 different codes relating to the fuel system. Last time I had a fuel related issue, it cost $1500 to fix!
Ashburn Village Sunoco generally does not work on diesel engines and they called to let me know that. But I asked John to take a look. The next call I got from them was, "do you live on a farm?". They said I had a critter living in my engine compartment and that said critter liked plastic!
After inspection of the damage, they said it would be $250 to fix. I was elated since there were no major issues. Could have been much worse!
I think that the critter that ate my wires was the same dead squirrel that we saw on the street. Must have tried to get out while I was moving and he met his maker. Root problem solved!
Related to this, we had a squirrel in our garage for a couple of days before the car issues. I finally chased it out. Only loss was a little birdseed.
He shouldn't have messed with my stuff!

Pretty wild! Maybe the same squirrel as in your garage.

That's what we are thinking since there have been no squirel's hanging around the last couple of days.

Yep prob the squirrel. They like to chew on my christmas lighting wires every year if they're close to the ground where they can reach. There's some chemical in the plastic that they like.
I keep glue traps on both sides of the entrance in the garage to take care of critters that make their way into the garage.
