Upper Potomac 10/9/18

I decided to hit the river again today as rain is coming soon.  I got out early and started with the Whopper Plopper.   A couple casts in, I hooked a big fish that jumped and gave me a good fight.  It went under the boat and I tried to grab the net and then I saw the line was caught in the trolling motor.  I left it on low and the line was all tangled up.  I gave the fish slack and it jumped 2 more times.  The second time it broke the line and took my Whopper Plopper.  I had just put a new hook on the front.  It was 18"+ easy.  I did not get another topwater bite.  I was able to take off the TM prop and get the line out with no problem.

I ran upriver and it was a long time before I got another bite.  I finally got a 15"er on a small crank.

I floated and fished and it was very slow at first.  I ended up floating the island we fished yesterday.  Gradually, I got some bites on swim baits and the craw.  Fished all day until 3:30pm with nice weather and ended up with 12 total.  I had a concentration of fish that I floated through and caught 2 decent ones and a bigger one got off.  Most fish were cookie-cutter 14-15.25".  The rest were dinks and I caught one 12"er.

Glad you got some more.

I had a nice one break me off yesterday. Bob saw it when it jumped, he said is was a good one. I don't know where I was looking when that happened.

Time to go fishin' again!
