9-4-18, Severn River

At 5:45a on the way to meeting my cousin Army at 6am, I heard a pick up truck honking at me for some reason. Sometimes, folks are ticked that I have a boat in tow. Sometimes, someone wants to tell me something is wrong. This time it was Curly waving at me while on his way to work. I actually didn't realize it until he passed me.

So on the road to the Severn we go!

Once there, we got our fly stuff together. This process takes a little longer since the rods need to be built and lures tied on. Mine are always at the ready since I keep them on a rack in the garage and then on the boat.

We splashed the boat without incident....but wait a minute, I turned the key and NADA! We fiddled with the connection and I called Jim Starkey (boat builder) and the only thought was that perhaps I left something on. Well, we still don't have juice so I walked up the hill and got my portable charger/starter. We hooked it up but t only had 1/2 juice because apparently, I left the on/off switch on. Double whammy.

So back up the hill I go (definitely got my walking in today) and brought the truck down to the water.

My jumper cables are long just for this reason and we got the boat started. It was now close to 9a!

We could not make the normal stop at the condos to take the skunk off as we had to run the boat for a while...

If you are a Ravens fan, the team owner owns this yacht!

Jim said to run the boat for at least 5 miles to we went out on the bay and did some sight seeing. It was almost flat calm!

We finally made it to the radio towers and I shut the engine down. Our 2 choices were: 1. hope it re starts and 2. it's a long was back using the TM! It started so we were back on charge.

The fishing was slow and I picked up the 1st one so here is the obligatory 1st fish pic!

Nothing to write home about...

Then Army hooks up with a teeny one...a peanut bunker (sorry about the pic)!

We were getting very few bites as I only caught a couple here so we moved to an area that is usually swarmed with perch. Not so this time, I think I got one or two and that was it.

Knowing we had a full charge now, I decided to go to Martin's Pond which always produces. But not today. I don't know if we just weren't making the right presentation of if the fish were lethargic or overly stuffed but today was the slowest (in season) white perching day in many a year...or ever!

After a nice lunch (nice IPA) in the shade, we went back to the towers but nothing was going on.

It's now past the time I wanted to fish to and it was really hot but I needed to get Army on a white perch! So we headed back and stopped at the condo.

Here, I caught a spec...

And Army got a perch!

You would have thought he had caught a 13 incher the way I was hoopin' and hollerin'! He said, you know Ernie, I've caught many a fish in my life time. I didn't care, he had never caught a white perch...until today!

Decent trip on the way home with only a few traffic hold ups.

Fly fishing for white perch ain't for sissies!

Time to go fishin' again!

Wow!  You made the best of the many curve balls you were thrown.  Good job getting a few and pushing through!

Wish you could have had a better day for your cousin, but at least you fished. Cute little speck.
