I thought I would get out early before the predicted afternoon thunderstorms. The forecast kept changing and they said it might rain in the morning. I got up and looked again and it looked like light showers locally. I got on the water shortly after 6:00am and tried the plopper on a point, but there was a slug of muddy water, so I switched up to some sub-surface lures. Five minutes later it was greener water there. I ended up with 4 fish on different lures. One each one a chatterbait, a skinny white and clear tube, a crankbait and an underspin. Three of the four were right around 15 inches and one dink.
I decided to run up river and try another spot. It sprinkled a little while I was at the first spot. I struggled to find cleaner water or get a bite and eventually decided just to float back. I ended up with 3 more cookie cutter 15-15.5 inch smallies in the dingy water with the underspin and swimbait combo and one small catfish on the crankbait. One was behind a rock and the others were in rocky areas.
It got very hot quick once the sun got up. The game warden was out checking folks and I was happy to see him. I was off the water by noon with seven total smallies and the one catfish.
