After a restless night, I got up early and was the second boat to put in at about 5:30am. The morning was cool after the storms we got yesterday afternoon and evening.
I threw a whopper plopper not far from the ramp and got one at the tip of an island. My camera memory was full, so I just got one shot of the skinny fish that was maybe between 15 and 16 inches.
I ran up river and caught a couple on swimbaits on a jig head and underspin. I lost one that hit a chug bug, but got off due to my drag being set too loose (I had it set for a crankbait I was using and the line was braid). The biggest was 15.25".
I had caught 5 when Ernie first called me. He was with Bob and had gotten out a little later. He said they caught a few near the ramp and he was heading up river soon. I fished and floated for a while and did not catch anything (lost one). I could see Ernie down river, but he was staying below me. I got a call from Ernie and he said he and Bob got into some fish and he had 6 up to 18.5" and Bob had 9 up to 17". I decided to head down their way. The river was clearer and running swift on the MD side where I dropped the drag chain. I was a little ways above where Ernie and Bob were. I was casting an underspin head with a pretty beat up swim bait that had the tail spiked. I was pretty much blind casting in the swifter water when I hooked a good fish. An epic battle ensued and I could see it was a big fish. It pulled drag, took me around the boat, dogged me and made a run under the boat. I grabbed the net and missed the fish twice before I finally got it. I could see it was a hog and I gave out a loud woo hoo to let Ernie and Bob know I caught a big one. I took a couple pictures and measured it and it was 20". My third c-class this year!
I caught up to Ernie and Bob and fished the section of humps and holes until he left at 1:47pm. I did not realize how late it was and ate my lunch and then started floating back. I caught one more smallie and a small catfish on a Rebel humpback. I lost what turned out to be a catfish that hit my underspin rig and then decided to head in. I got to the ramp at 3:15pm. I was beat, but very happy with my fish.

After the woo hoo, I called John back and told him to keep it down, we were trying to fish!
I did get lazy with the camera today.....should have taken a few more shots.
